BECKS APPEAL ... LA Galaxy ace could star for Britain in Olympic Games
DAVID BECKHAM does not want to coach a Team GB at London 2012 - he wants to PLAY for them.
Becks would be eligible as one of three over-age players in a unified Great Britain football side at next summer's Olympics.
He has already been linked to such a role, or even a coaching position with the team. And the ex-England captain said: "We'll see. Once the manager has been picked I'd love to be part of the Olympics. I'd be honoured to be something in the GB team, especially being an East End lad.
"But it would be as a player rather than a coach. I'll be 37 but I'd still be better as a player rather than a coach.
"I still feel like I'm 21 when I'm playing. I still love the game like I did when I was 21, I'm still as fit as I ever was and everyone knows I've looked after myself properly.
"There are 13 months to go and a lot of decisions to be made but football has been part of my life for so many years so to be part of that would be incredible.
"Stuart Pearce has done well with the Under-21s but we'll have to wait and see whether he is the manager of the Great Britain team. It's not my decision, thankfully."
Midfielder Becks, who is coming to the end of his five-year deal with LA Galaxy, added: "Above all I will be a fan, watching athletes such as Jessica Ennis and Tom Daley, young athletes that will inspire so many young children globally, not just in our country. It's an exciting prospect.
"I remember the rivalries between Seb Coe and Steve Ovett - but the exciting thing will be seeing athletes from all over the world in the area where I grew up.
