Brazil 1-0 Romania: Neymar shines in Ronaldo's farewell match

The farewell match for Ronaldo captivated Brazil as the national side took down Romania 1-0 in the striker's last appearance in green and yellow.

Neymar showed his skill to beat goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu, taking the ball to the end line before chipping a soft cross to Fred, who put the ball in the net for the 1-0 scoreline. Ronaldo played 15 minutes but missed on all three of his chances, all of which were clear.

With the win, Brazil gave a deserved send off to one of the most successful players in history and the nation's top scorer.

Though the former star didn't make an impact, the new star did.

Brazil went on the attack early, playing Santos starlet Neymar down the left side.

The heralded young star nearly struck 11 minutes in, charging towards goal, this time from the right side. The Chelsea target took the ball into the box, cutting inside with a clever touch before firing a shot that went just over the bar.

Robinho had his chance to score 20 minutes in after Maicon found the Milan forward on the far side of the goal after making a run towards the end line. The attacker's shot went wide of the post, keeping the scoreline at 0-0.

The home side went up 1-0 a minute later when Neymar found Fred alone in front of goal.

Gabriel Muresan almost leveled it 24 minutes in with a powerful free-kick from long range, but the ball bounced off the bar and out.

Then, the moment fans around the world were waiting for came. Ronaldo made his appearance, coming on for Fred, who bowed down to Ronaldo as if he were king.

From there, the two-time World Cup winner had his chance to score in his final appearance for the South Americans.

Ronaldo nearly scored off a pass from Neymar right in front of the goal minutes after coming on, but Tatarusanu was positioned well, saving 'O Fenomeno' with ease.

The contest was then slowed down as the intentions of the Brazilians to get the ball to Ronaldo become more than evident.

In his second chance on goal from in the box, Ronaldo nearly sent the ball into the stands.

The legend's third and final clear chance came in the box, again. But, the veteran was denied by the goalkeeper, who stopped the low, powerful shot in the middle of the goal.

Ronaldo exited to the praise and screams of joy of the fans at half time and was substituted for Nilmar.

Brazil continued to dominate in the second half, but couldn't double the score, using a combination of long balls and build up through the middle.

Brazil's next game will be next month in the Copa America, where they will first face Venezuela.

Romania will take on Paraguay on Saturday in another friendly.
