SUB Ashley Young saved England from the Swiss abyss then roared: I've proved my point.

Three Lions boss Fabio Capello sprung a shock by leaving the Aston Villa winger on the bench.

Yet Young — thrown into the mix at half-time — was still the darling of Wembley thanks to his classy leveller.

And he said: "Of course I was disappointed to be on the bench but I took it on the chin and wanted to come on and do the best I can.

"I thought I did well when I came on but everybody in the dressing room is disappointed we didn't get the win.

"It is always nice to get on the scoresheet but it would have been a better feeling if we had got the three points."

England shipped two early goals but a Frank Lampard penalty got them back in it before the break.

Young then came off the sidelines to level — yet it could have been even better had Darren Bent not blown a golden chance to snatch victory.

The Villa hitman blazed over at 2-2 with a virtually empty net at his mercy.

And club mate Young added: "I was thinking we were going to see the ripple of the net but it wasn't to be.

"He is disappointed but we created chances."

Young has been tipped to quit Villa Park with Manchester United and Liverpool interested.

And the former Watford man insists he will sit down with club chiefs soon and sort out his future.

He said: "I'm going away on holiday but I said at the end of the season I would speak to the manager.

"That is where it stands. Now I'll go back and speak to the chairman and we will take it from there."
