Peru and the Czech Republic finished in a goalless draw in the Kirin Cup on Saturday.
Peru had the best scoring chance late in the match when substitute Jefferson Farfan hit the post with a header in the 83rd minute.
“We created a lot of chances, more than the Czech team so from that standpoint I am happy,” Peru coach Sergio Markarian said. “We had a young team here and I was able to get a good assessment of what they can do.”
Schalke forward Farfan also went close midway through the second half with a free kick from the top of the area that sailed just over the crossbar.
Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech was forced to make a diving save against Luis Advincula in the final minute of the first half.
Czech coach Michal Bilek credited the Chelsea ‘keeper for keeping his team in the match.
“Peru was very fast and passed the ball well,” Bilek said. “Thanks to our goalkeeper, we were able to keep them from scoring.”
Peru also drew with Japan 0-0 in its opening game on Wednesday.
Host Japan takes on the Czech Republic in the final match of the tournament on Tuesday.
The Czech team came to Japan without injured captain Tomas Rosicky and key striker Milan Baros.
Peru was using the tournament as a warm-up for the Copa America, the South American championship, which is played July 1-24 in Argentina.
