Daniel Sturridge set to make it big

ASHLEY COLE has tipped Daniel Sturridge to make a major impact at Chelsea next season.

Daniel Sturridge enjoyed a prolific loan spell at Bolton during the second half of last season, firing in eight goals in 12 appearances.

Bolton boss Owen Coyle admits he would love to have the striker back next season. But England star Cole insists the 21-year old will be doing the business for Chelsea instead.

The Blues left back said: “I saw Daniel recently and look at what he has done at Bolton.

“I knew what he could do. In training he’s honestly one of the hardest players I’ve ever had to mark. His movement is unreal.

“Hopefully when he comes back next season he’ll see more opportunities and bang goals in for us like he has done for Bolton.”

Sturridge will still have to battle his way past top strikers Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and £50m hitman Fernando Torres, to make the starting line-up.

But Coyle reckons he would be better off back at the Reebok Stadium. “We will try and get him back here for next season,” said Coyle.

“It’s a win-win situation – for the player, the parent club and for us. “I feel with Daniel that another period at Bolton will take him on to the next level and then he will be a starter for Chelsea.

“Right now he is behind Drogba, Torres, Malouda, Anelka and Kalou. Like all our loan players, we give them a platform and belief they can play in best league in the world.

“Daniel set the place alight during his time here – and we’d love him back to help with his development next season.”

Chelsea finished empty handed, costing manager Carlo Ancelotti his job. But Cole insists second place behind champions Manchester United and no silverware was not a complete disaster.

He said: “At the start of the season we played some good football, some sexy football to be fair.

“When we had that crazy spell, not even a blip, an unheard-of period for any team, everyone wrote us off.

“But please give us credit for coming back and it’s an achievement to come second in the Premier League.”
