FIFA VP Grondona hits out at England

FIFA’s senior vice president has criticized England and its media in a remarkable speech to the governing body’s 208 members.

Julio Grondona says “England always has something to complain about” and its media coverage of FIFA is “mostly lies.”

World Soccer Gallery The 79-year-old Argentina official spoke after England failed in a proposal to postpone President Sepp Blatter’s re-election on Wednesday. The motion was defeated by 172 votes to 17.

Grondona says England has never got over losing the presidency of FIFA in 1974.

He urged England to “please leave the FIFA family alone” and stop upsetting the body.

Grondona’s speech, before his scheduled introduction to FIFA’s financial report, was warmly applauded.
