Eto’o double helps Inter to cup triumph

ROME, May 29 (Reuters)- Samuel Eto’o scored twice as Inter Milan salvaged a trophy from a disappointing season with a 3-1 win over Palermo in an electric Italian Cup final on Sunday.
The Cameroon striker scored in the 26th and 76th minutes with carbon-copy strikes after latching on to precise Wesley Sneijder passes.
Palermo, seeking their first Italian Cup victory, dominated much of the final but wasted a string of openings before Ezequiel Munoz’s 88th-minute header set up a grandstand finale.
The Argentine defender was sent then off, though, and after Eto’o almost grabbed a hat-trick, striking the bar from a free kick, substitute Diego Milito scored in stoppage time to give the Nerazzurri their seventh success in the Coppa Italia.
Inter, dethroned as Serie A champions by rivals AC Milan after a five-year reign, will play in the Champions League next season, giving Palermo the consolation of another run in the Europa League.
