The Real Madrid man picked up a thigh injury during his club's 1-0 Copa del Rey victory over Barcelona on April 20 and has not played since.
Joachim Low's men entertain Uruguay on Sunday evening in a friendly but the former Stuttgart holding player will not be risked, although Khedira believes he will be fit for the Austria game next week.
"The injury is healing, I am on the right track to recovery. I am confident that I will be fit enough for Austria on Friday," Khedira told dfb.tv.
Khedira has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign for the La Liga giants, making 25 appearances in the league since his summer arrival.
The 24 year old has emerged as a key component in the heart of the German national side's midfield, representing his country on 18 occasions.
Germany and Uruguay kick-off at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena at 20:00 local time on Sunday. The last time the two sides faced off was in the 2010 World Cup third-place match, which Germany won 3-2.
