Sporting Gijon 1 : 2 Malaga - Maresca looks to continue run

I have a say

Malaga midfielder Enzo Maresca hopes his side can secure a fifth straight win and seal Primera Division survival against Sporting Gijon on Tuesday night.

Malaga have beaten Real Mallorca, Racing Santander, Hercules and Atletico Madrid in their last four games, scoring 11 goals and conceding just two in the process, to move on to 42 points.

And a win at home to Sporting would almost certainly guarantee survival, which had looked unlikely just a couple of months ago when the Andalusian club propped up the table.

"We are in a very positive run and let's hope we can continue that on Tuesday," Maresca said.

"The most important thing is the three points, because we are not safe yet, but at the moment we are winning points and playing good football too."

Maresca believes 45 points will be enough.

"If we win, we will have 45 points and survival should be there or thereabouts," he said.

Sporting have one more point than Malaga after rescuing a 2-2 draw in the dying seconds at home to Deportivo La Coruna at the weekend.

And striker David Barral, who scored the crucial penalty to earn his side a point, believes the Asturians are not safe just yet.

"We still need more points to avoid any unwanted surprises," he said.

"I don't think they will settle for a draw because they are on a good run, and we will go out to win the game, like we always do."
