Fifa sets target of July 2012 to approve goalline technology
The lack of goalline technology came under the spotlight again at the weekend following Frank Lampard's controversial goal for Chelsea against Tottenham.

Fifa has set a July 2012 target to approve goalline technology systems, which could be introduced before the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Fifa said candidates must pass a further two rounds of tests conducted at a stadium of their choice. Football's law-making body, the International Football Association Board, is scheduled to meet in July next year to analyse the results.

Technology companies bidding for approval must tell Fifa in the next month if they want to take part in tests scheduled from September to December.

Fifa said tests will be in daylight and under World Cup-standard floodlights. Systems achieving 90% accuracy in "simulated match scenarios" could be invited for more tests in March to June 2012.
