Daniele Mannini grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser as Sampdoria claimed a vital 3-3 draw against Brescia.

The visitors led three times, through a Citadin Eder strike and an Andrea Caracciolo double but Samp hit back on each occasion with goals from Nicola Pozzi, Fernando Tissone and Mannini.

Samp came into the weekend only outside the relegation zone by virtue of a better goal difference than third-bottom Lecce. Brescia were in even deeper trouble, second from bottom and five points from safety.

And with both sides needing a win, caution was thrown to the wind in a pulsating encounter.

The hosts started promisingly with both Daniele Gastaldello and Angelo Palombo coming close inside the opening quarter of an hour.

Brescia responded with a Caracciolo strike which brought a fine save from Samp keeper Gianluca Curci before, at the other end, Mannini headed over from close range.

A frantic second period started with Brescia going ahead, Caracciolo playing in Eder who fired into the bottom right-hand corner.

The lead lasted just five minutes as Jonathan Biabiany crossed for Pozzi to head home.

Brescia restored their advantage with the third goal in an eight-minute spell.

Visiting keeper Michele Arcari launched a quick counter-attack which culminated in the ball falling to Caracciolo and the experienced striker made no mistake from 12 yards.

The goals continued and it was all square once more after 63 minutes with Tissone cracking a loose ball into the corner with Arcari beaten.

Massimo Maccarone almost put Samp ahead with a close-range header before Brescia grabbed a third goal, which they must have thought was the match-winner.

Alessandro Diamanti whipped in a cross and Caracciolo was on hand to head home from inside the six-yard box.

The drama was not over though and Mannini grabbed a crucial goal after latching onto substitute Stefano Guberti's pass.

There was still time for Samp to come close to a winner with Gastaldello's shot flashing inches past the post.
