Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas has considered taking legal action against the French FA over unpaid World Cup bonuses.

1998 World Cup winners France saw their 2010 campaign in the tournament hit by controversy when it was revealed that the players had gone on strike, with Nicolas Anelka sent home after a row with then national team coach Raymond Domenech.

The governing body of French football decided to hold back players' bonuses because of the controversial events within the camp in South Africa, and now the lawyer representing centre-back Gallas has admitted that a legal challenge is possible.

"Mr Gallas does envisage taking the affair to court," said Jim Michel-Gabriel, according to The News of the World.

"This case has gone on too long."

But Yves Wehrli, who is a lawyer for the French FA, said: "We do not see why Gallas should receive favourable treatment different to others."

The president of the French FA, Fernand Duchaussoy, also maintained that the organisation would fight back if Gallas decides to pursue legal action.

He said: "Our position is clear and we will assume any legal follow-up if there is one."

Apart from Gallas, it has been reported that the only other player who is still seeking the money is Anelka.
