English FA: Clubs should open up finances to fans

WEMBLEY, England (AP)—The head of the English soccer association says it is “unacceptable” if clubs don’t disclose full information about their finances and ownership to fans.

Manchester United fans are unhappy about the lack of transparency from the Glazer family about how a large part of the club’s debt was paid off last year.

Second-tier club Leeds has also refused to reveal its financial backers.

David Bernstein, the chairman of The Football Association, told a British parliamentary inquiry into soccer governance when asked about Leeds that “supporters should know who owns all clubs.”

Bernstein added more generally that “supporters are entitled to full information from their clubs and proper dialogue” about the finances.

The Glazers also own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
