Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes he can still be given international football action under Fabio Capello despite not having been capped for almost two years.

Jenas holds a total of 21 caps and last featured in the Three Lions line-up for the friendly fixture against Brazil in November 2009.

The 28-year-old failed to be selected for Saturday’s Euro 2012 qualifying game against Wales or Tuesday’s friendly against Ghana as he has been plagued by injury this season.

Jenas featured in Capello's first game in charge of the Three Lions and scored the opening goal in that match against Switzerland.

The Spurs midfielder has revealed he is staying focused on getting back to full fitness for the final weeks of the 2010-11 Premier League season but does not put aside his hopes of returning to the international scene.

He told the Evening Standard: "It is always frustrating not to be involved with England during international weeks but sometimes you can be chosen in the squad, go away for 10 days and not play for a single minute.

"That can be even harder to take than being left out in the first place.

"When you get to this stage of the season, you always have niggles and things that are hurting, so this is a good opportunity for me to work hard on the fitness and get myself in good shape for the last period of the season.

"Of course, it has been very quiet at Tottenham with so many of the lads away playing for their countries.

"So while I'm disappointed not to be involved with England, it's not something I'm worried about.

“I know how good I am and I'm very confident I'll be back in the fold."
