Rio rings new cap'n Terry – now THAT’S class, Fabio

RIO FERDINAND has rung John Terry and told him: I've got no problem with you, mate. Lead us to victory against Wales.

In a show of class which England boss Fabio Capello would not understand, axed skipper Ferdinand contacted Terry.

And he wished the Chelsea star good luck as captain for Saturday's big Euro 2012 qualifying clash against the Welsh in Cardiff.

Ferdinand made it clear to Terry that his issue over having the captaincy taken away was with Capello alone and what he could not get his head round was Capello's refusal to discuss the situation with him.

The England manager did not bother to discuss his decision with two other captaincy candidates either - Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Chelsea's Frank Lampard.

But Ferdinand explained he bore no grudges against his long-standing central defensive partner and pal and wanted more than anything for the team to win the Euro 2012 Group G clash at the Millennium Stadium.

Manchester United star Ferdinand has never been to a Euro finals and is still keen to play in them next year whatever his issues with the Italian manager.

SunSport told yesterday how Ferdinand understood that his injury problems meant England needed a new captain at the moment and there was no bitterness with Terry.

We also revealed how Ferdinand has never forgotten that Terry contacted him a year ago when he himself lost the captaincy and wished Rio good luck.

Terry was also a big support to Ferdinand after he got injured in training just before the World Cup started and was ruled out of the tournament.

A source close to Ferdinand said: "Rio felt it was only right he gave John a call and talked things over.

"He wished John all the best for Saturday and told him he believed he would lead the team to a win.

"John and Rio go back years and there is a mutual respect. Maybe Capello could learn a bit from them."

Ferdinand tweeted yesterday to fans who backed him: "Thanks for all your messages. I appreciate them all. Pure love."
