Perez backs Mourinho over fixture flap

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has backed Jose Mourinho in his complaints over the Spanish league fixtures schedule, which the Portuguese coach argues works in Barcelona's favour.

Mourinho has repeatedly complained in recent weeks that Real have less time for rest between matches than arch-rivals and league leaders Barcelona.

The 48-year-old has also complained that Real play in the late 10 pm slot more often than Barcelona and that his side usually have to play after the Catalan side, which piles on the pressure because his players go on the pitch knowing their rivals have won.

"Class is earned by acknowledging the merits of our opponents, but also by defending what we believe is just. Class is also earned by denouncing irregular behaviour both on or off the pitch," Perez was quoted by the club's website.

Using the Spanish term 'Madridismo' for the club's belief that it plays with style and honour, Perez added: "It is also an example of true Madridismo to defend Real Madrid from what we believe to be unjust, irregular or arbitrary.

"And that is exactly what our coach, Jose Mourinho, does. What Jose Mourinho says is also an example of Madridismo."

Real are in second place in the league after their 2-0 win on Saturday over Hercules with 70 points, four fewer than Barcelona who have played one game less. Barcelona visit Sevilla later on Sunday.
