Wenger - Adebayor right to join Madrid

Adebayor scored 62 goals in 142 Arsenal appearances before swapping Emirates for Eastlands in the summer of 2009 for a fee in the region of £25 million.
Despite making an impressive start to his City career, the Togolese striker struggled to command a regular starting spot under Roberto Mancini and moved to Real for the rest of the season in January.
The 26–year-old made a flying start to life in the Spanish capital with two goals in three appearances. Wenger believes that is just the beginning of a move that will be hugely beneficial to both parties.
“Adebayor didn’t play anymore [at Manchester City], he is a talented player and it’s a waste for him not to play,” said the manager.
“It is a good decision from Adebayor and a good decision from Real Madrid in my opinion.
“Adebayor needs to gain confidence again and to play at his best because he was going nowhere at Manchester City. Both [Adebayor and Real Madrid] can be winners.
“They need somebody with presence, who is good in the air, who can push over the defenders. The characteristics of Adebayor are exactly what Real Madrid need.”
Adebayor was out-spoken after being left out of City’s plans but the man who brought him to north London has played down any talk of a bad attitude.
“He is a nice guy,” added Wenger. “When a player doesn’t do well somewhere, his character is questioned straight away.
“Overall, he is not a difficult guy. We had no problem with Adebayor on a daily basis.
“He was likable, he did his job well.”
