Hercules 2 : 1 Zaragoza - Late Hercules rally denies Zaragoza

Hercules scored twice in the last 10 minutes to snatch victory away from Real Zaragoza and end their run of four successive defeats.

The Alicante outfit, whose losing streak had left them just a point above the relegation zone, looked set for another setback as they fell behind after four minutes against in-form Zaragoza, Braulio the goalscorer.

That is the way the score stayed until the 80th minute, but a stunning long-range strike from Francisco Farinos got Hercules back on level terms and the hosts then went onto claim all three points thanks to an 89th-minute winner from top scorer David Trezeguet.

In contrast to Hercules' poor form, Zaragoza had won four of their previous six games to climb up to 12th place - having spent much of the season propping up the division - and Javier Aguirre's side must have been confident of adding another victory when they took an early lead at the Rico Perez stadium.

Said Boutahar curled over a free-kick from the right wing and Braulio climbed highest on the edge of the six-yard box to glance a header past Juan Calatayud.

Zaragoza held onto that advantage without too many worries in a game of few clear-cut chances, but with time running out Hercules captain Farinos produced a goal out of nothing to bring his side back on terms.

The Zaragoza defence managed to half-clear a corner, but Farinos picked up possession 30 yards out before unleashing an unstoppable rising shot with his left foot that whistled past Leo Franco before flying into the net off the inside of the post.

That goal - Hercules first in five games - gave the promoted side some much-needed hope and momentum, and nine minutes later they were celebrating what would prove to be the winner.

Farinos was again involved, floating an inch-perfect pass into the edge of the box for Trezeguet, who chested the ball down before immediately thumping a left-footed shot past Leo Franco on the half-volley for his 10th league goal of the campaign.
