Udinese returned to winning ways, after their midweek draw with Bologna, with a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria to move up to fifth in the Serie A standings.

Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Antonio Di Natale sealed the win for the Bianconeri in the first half and saw them clinch their fifth victory in the last seven games.

Samp tried to find a way back into the match in the second half but, in stark contrast to Udinese's fine form, they have now lost five of their last seven as their crisis deepens.

Di Natale looked set to net his 100th goal for Udinese in Serie A in the 14th minute when he was sent clear by Sanchez, but Massimo Volta recovered ground and touched the ball behind for a corner just before the Udinese forward shot.

In the 18th minute, Di Natale was unsure about whether he had indeed reached his landmark when his curling free-kick found the back of the net.

However, the goal was Sanchez's since he got the slightest of flicks with his head to put the home side in front.

Udinese were dominating, showing the kind of football which had beaten Inter Milan and Juventus in recent weeks.

The second goal was inevitable and it came in the 40th minute with Sanchez threading the ball through a needle into the path of Di Natale, who guided his shot across Gianluca Curci into the opposite corner to reach his century.

Mauricio Isla could have wrapped things up on the stroke of half-time, but he blazed his shot over the crossbar.

Samp tried to make a contest of it in the second half with Reto Ziegler's free-kick drawing a fine one-handed save out of Emanuele Belardi in the 53rd minute.

Three minutes later, Daniele Dessena made only a half-hearted attempt to reach a cross which could have put him through one-on-one with Belardi.

Daniele Mannini hit the bar with a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area as the Blucerchiati tried but failed to find their first goal since January 9.
