Parma 0 - 1 Lecce: Lecce in smash and grab

Substitute Ernesto Chevanton stole all three points for Lecce with an injury-time header in a 1-0 victory at Parma.

Parma dominated the encounter but failed to turn their pressure into goals.

Just when it looked as the two sides would share the spoils, the South American Chevanton scored to lift Lecce into 16th place and three points clear of the drop zone.

Moreover, it marked the first time since October 3 that Lecce kept a clean sheet.

Parma, meanwhile, are one point clear of Lecce after 23 games.

Parma coach Pasquale Marino handed new signing Amauri his first start.

The Brazilian forward joined Parma on loan from Juventus on Monday.

Amauri had Parma's first chance with a right-footed shot from the heart of the area but it was kept out by Lecce goalkeeper Antonio Rosati.

In the 19th minute, Rosati made a great save to parry away Amauri's powerful header from Cristian Zaccardo's cross.

Parma continued to push forward and Rosati was called into action again to deny Antonio Candreva, who had struck the ball from 10 yards.

The visitors first tested Antonio Mirante in the 40th minute but the Parma goalkeeper did well to parry away Ignacio Piatti's effort from the edge of the area.

Parma picked up where they left off after the re-start and should have broken the deadlock in the 68th minute.

Sebastian Giovinco fed Candreva inside the box and he fired on target only for his effort to be saved by Rosati.

At the other end, Stefano Ferrario headed just wide from Jeda's cross in what looked to be Lecce's first of the evening.

With 24 minutes remaining, Lecce coach Luigi De Canio brought in Chevanton in place of Daniele Corvia and it proved to be a wise move as he claimed a valuable victory in the battle to avoid relegation.

Chevanton headed Ruben Oliveira's cross from the far post and beat Mirante to silence the fans at the Ennio Tardini stadium.
