ROME (AFP) - Ajax midfielder Urby Emanuelson will join AC Milan later on Saturday, the Italian team's vice-president Adriano Galliani said.

If the deal goes through, it will be Milan's second acquisition of the January transfer window following the arrival of Italy forward Antonio Cassano from Sampdoria.

"He will definitely be ours from July 1 but I think he'll be ours today," said Galliani.

"We're very close to his signature, it's not done yet but I think it will be by tonight."

The 24-year-old can play at left-wing, left-back, wing-back or in midfield and Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said he would be a good signing.

"He was one of our objectives in the transfer market and I would be happy for him to come," he said.

"He has excellent technique, he's dynamic, he's a midfielder who can play full-back but he's more of a midfielder."

Milan host Cesena on Sunday and Allegri is feeling confident having seen his forwards tear Bari apart in the Coppa Italia in midweek.

Cassano teamed up with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho while Pato came off the bench.

It was Cassano's first start and it came at the expense of Pato who had disappointed last weekend against Lecce.

Allegri spoke of his delight at Cassano's progress while insisting that his arrival does not mean youngster Pato will be pushed aside.

"Cassano changes games. We've signed an amazing player and he needs to keep on working as he has been," he said.

"I'm still undecided between him and Pato as to who will play alongside Ibrahimovic against Cesena.

"Pato should keep calm, he's an amazing player. He was out for some time and he needs to learn to play with Ibra.

"In any case, Cassano has different characteristics to Pato. Pato is more of a finisher and Cassano more of a creator."
