England physio Gary Lewin has had his say on the Wayne Rooney injury saga, revealing that the Manchester United player trained every day before facing Montenegro.

The striker looks to be in for a hot reception from manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who claimed his star man was left out of his side's last two games because of injury, only for Rooney to contradict him and insist he has been fit throughout the season.

Rooney played the full 90 minutes against Montenegro in the 0-0 Euro 2012 qualifying clash, and Lewin added weight to Rooney's claims.

The physio told talkSPORT: "I can only speak about the seven days he was with England, and he trained every day and was fit for the game.

"Obviously he hadn’t played for Manchester United for two weeks before and what happened at United is between them and him.

"But when he arrived with us he was fit and available to play.

"One of the things that’s changed in my role now is we visit the clubs.

"We’re in communication with the clubs every day so we knew what was going on with Wayne.

"If you remember rightly, Alex Ferguson went public and said he would be available for England.

"Man United knew with the two weeks he had off and the treatment they were giving him that by the time he came to us he would be ready to train.

"And they were quite open with us about that."
