MANCHESTER CITY'S KOLO TOURE IS GUNNING FOR GLORYKOLO TOURE can feel it. Smell it. Sense it.

All the signs are there at Manchester City that Toure’s new club can emulate everything he achieved in his seven glorious years at Arsenal.

Toure was a Premier League champion, won two FA Cups and was a dignified runner-up in the Champions League and twice more in the Premier.

Now, 14 months on from his £14million switch from The Emirates, Toure is looking good to get his hands on more silverware.

The same hard work ethic Toure thrived on in his Arsenal days is there in abundance under new boss Roberto Mancini.
Toure is looking back to the future – and loving what he sees.

Team-mates have grumbled about Mancini’s tough training schedule with days off as rare as sunny days at the Ryder Cup.

But Toure has told the moaners that hard work and honest graft were two of the secrets of the Gunners’ success.

Toure, who joined Arsenal from Ivory Coast club ASEC Mimosas for £150,000 in 2002, is confident that history will repeat itself at City.

He said: “In that time we had so many great players in the team. Everyone wanted to be in the side and to do that you had to fight for every single ball.

“What we are getting at City now is a lot of competition for places. That will make the difference.

“There’s a lot of belief in this club and you need to be at your best to be on the list to play in the games. That also makes a big difference.

“You have to make sure you are in the best condition and at your best in training to be chosen. You need to fight in every training session to be on the manager’s list.”

Toure will certainly give everything he’s got to ensure City capture that winning mentality which was so evident under Arsene Wenger.

Days off to him are fruitless. Lead him to the training ground every morning and Toure is a happy man.

He said: “There was no time at Arsenal to rest. For me I would play the game every day. I don’t mind. I love what I’m doing.

“When I’m on the pitch it’s not like I’m tired or anything. I feel so happy because we are doing a great job and we’re really lucky to be footballers.

“I really enjoy it. I can work every single day and it’s no problem. When you want to be a big club it means that you play in the Champions League or the Europa League and the Premier League.

“We all need to put our energy in and fight every single game. To win the title takes a lot of energy.

“But at the end you are so happy. There’s time for days off when you have finished playing.”
Toure knows, too, from his time at Arsenal that no game can be taken for granted. A 1-0 victory over Chelsea last Saturday was sweet – but joy could turn into despair if City don’t do the business today against Newcastle.

He said: “They are a good team. You can do really well against Chelsea and then battle with a team like Newcastle.

“We want to be prepared for that. It’s going to be a tough game.”
