Reigning German champions Bayern Munich lock horns with Borussia Dortmund on Sunday in what could prove to be crucial match in the race for the 2010-11 Bundesliga title. FC Hollywood have made a disappointing start to the season and have collected only eight points from their opening six matches.

Dortmund on the other hand have been in impressive form this season and sit second in the table at the moment. BvB lost their season opener at home against Bayer Leverkusen, but have since been unbeatable. After five consecutive victories, Dortmund have become one of the favourites to win the Bundesliga title instead of being an outsider for domestic glory.

Many have argued that the race for the league title isn't decided until the second half of the season, but Bayern are already trailing a serious rival for the Bundesliga title by seven points at the beginning of October.

To make things even worse, the Bavarians are struggling to find their best form. Bayern impressed during the second half of the 2009-10 campaign with some fresh and attacking football, but the German titleholders have yet to reproduce the style that helped them to the Champions League final.

Additionally, their star performer from last year, Arjen Robben, will be unavailable for several more weeks due to the hamstring injury he picked up at the 2010 World Cup while wearing the Oranje jersey. Normally, Bayern still have the creativity of Franck Ribery to rely on, but the France international is unavailable due to injury as well.

For Dortmund, things are going a lot better than expected. The Europa League hopefuls have earned themselves a reputation of being slow-starters in the past couple of years, but they have made an outstanding start to the current season. Consequently, they are considered to be one of the favourites for the title.

Promising youngsters such as Mario Goetze, Shinji Kagawa and Kevin Grosskreutz have been simply outstanding and the Dortmund starlets are only expected to get better in the remainder of the season. Head coach Juergen Klopp is one of the better coaches around in Germany and BvB's form isn't likely to slip in the upcoming weeks, especial bearing in mind that they have already met class teams such as Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart, Wolfsburg and Schalke.

This being said, Borussia appear to be genuine contenders for the Bundesliga title and they could hand Bayern a huge blow if they beat the Bavarians on Sunday, thus creating a ten-point gap with the reigning champions.

Surely, Dortmund will probably spill ten more points in the remainder of the season. However, the same can be said about Munich and it remains to be seen whether Bayern have what it takes to bounce back from an eventual defeat at the weekend.

On the other hand, a win for Bayern propels them straight back into the title race, while things are still manageable for Louis van Gaal and his men after a draw.
