Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero believes that the team are capable of challenging Real Madrid and Barcelona for the Primera Division crown, following their 4-0 defeat of Sporting Gijon on Monday evening.
Goals from Jose Jurado, Diego Forlan (2) and Simao put the Rojiblancos to the sword, and ensure that Quique Sanchez Flores’ side got their La Liga campaign off to a flying start.
Speaking to journalists after the match Aguero, who himself had an excellent match, commented, “We have produced a good match. We are happy to play, have fun, and we are comfortable in what we do.
“Our goal is to finish in the Champions League, but it is clear that if we continue this way, we can fight for the league.”
Aguero also passed comment on his coach, whom he believes the players enjoy working under, which is helping the club as a whole.
He added, “We have a boss who analyses our performances, and this makes us motivated and confident. If we add many more points, we can try to win the league.
