Ricardo Carvalho - Chelsea
In light of the growing trouble in signing Brazilian right-back Maicon from Inter, Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has turned his gaze elsewhere for options in the back line and has settled on another potential candidate: Chelsea's Ricardo Carvalho.
"I have always said Carvalho is one of the best central defenders in the world. He is in his moment of maturity. We will see if he comes," the 'Special One' said, according to AS.
Mourinho relied on Carvalho for seven seasons between his time at Porto and Chelsea. In recent comments, the Chelsea defender revealed that if the option of signing for Real Madrid presented itself as a possibility, that he would welcome the move with open arms.
Mourinho also took the opportunity to dispel the rumour that Los Blancos were interested in Benfica defender David Luiz.
"I like him a lot, but he will not come to Madrid this year," he said. "It's very difficult for him to leave his club and I am not thinking of him this year. There were a few contacts, but the price was prohibitive. After what Madrid invested last summer, we cannot spend as much this year."
