Arm break keeps Chelsea man on the bench
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has lost his fitness race to start in the Ivory Coast World Cup 2010 opener against Portugal after breaking his arm.
The 32-year picked up the knock to his right arm in a pre-tournament friendly against Japan and has been given special dispensation by FIFA to wear a protective cast for the match. Manager Sven Goran Eriksson has promoted former Portsmouth centre forward Aruna Dindane to the starting side in Drogba's absence.
Portugal head coach Carlos Queiroz has endured his share of injury problems, with winger Nani ruled out of the competition and Simao restricted to the substitute's bench with a calf knock.
Portugal: Eduardo; Ferreira, Alves, Carvalho, Coentrao; Mendes, Meireles, Deco; Ronaldo, Danny, Leidson.
Ivory Coast: Barry; Eboue, Kolo Toure, Demel, Tiene; Gervinho, Zokora, Yaya Toure, Tiote; Kalou, Dindane.
