Forfar clinched promoted to Division Two following a 2-0 win over Arbroath in the second leg of their play-off final.

The tie was finely poised after a goalless draw at Gayfield Park, however, Martyn Fotheringham broke the deadlock for the Loons after just five minutes.

The striker linked up with Mark McCulloch before unleashing a shot from just outside the area which rocketed into the top corner of the net.

Arbroath nearly levelled seven minutes later though as Philip McGuire's header from Kenneth McLean's corner produced a fine fingertip save from Euan McLean.

Midway through the first half, the hosts had a good period of pressure and nearly doubled their lead - but Stephen Tulloch headed wide from close range.

However, Forfar were reduced to 10 men on the hour mark when Tulloch, already on a yellow card for unsporting behaviour, received his second booking for a foul on Kenneth McLean.

Nevertheless, Dick Campbell's men responded well to the setback and substitute Bryan Deasley's shot from the edge of the box forced Darren Hill into action in the 72nd minute.

From then on, Arbroath tried to find the equaliser but they were caught on the counter when Deasley netted from 18 yards in the third minute of injury time to condemn the Red Lichties to relegation.
