Player Ratings: Seattle Sounders FC 0-4 Los Angeles Galaxy
Posted Sunday, May 09, 2010 by YAHOO Sport
Kasey Keller – 3
His gaffe gifted Galaxy the early lead. Looked shaky from then on and ended up letting three more goals in.
James Riley – 4
Most of the action came through the middle, but the rightback wasn't on his game either.
Tyrone Marshall – 3
His shoving match with Donovan out of bounds was the most passion he showed all game. Absolutely taken to school.
Jhon Kennedy Hurtado – 3
Invisible. The Galaxy defenders ran through him as if he was a ghost.
Leo Gonzalez – 4
Started a few good moves early on, but did not impress on the defensive side of the ball. Somehow managed to miss with the goal gaping in the 84th minute.
Osvaldo Alonso – 6
Once the Cuban hobbled off with a right quad strain, Galaxy took over the match. Alonso will wonder what would have happened if his blast from distance had gone in instead of narrowly high early on.
Pete Vagenas – 4
Couldn't hold his own against his old team and was overrun in midfield.
Freddie Ljungberg – 6
When he did get on the ball, he was Seattle's brightest spot. However, the Swede spent most of this game on the periphery.
Brad Evans – 5
Willing to fill any role for Seattle, including right midfield and striker in this game alone. Maybe it's time to return him to his central midfield position.
Steve Zakuani – 4
Without space, Zakuani's influence on games disappears. An organized Galaxy side granted the pacy winger no room.
Fredy Montero – 4
Continues to make runs toward the ball rather than stretching the defense. This made the Sounders FC offense easier to contain for the Galaxy.
Substitutes
Nate Sturgis – 4
Hardly made his hour on the pitch count.
Sanna Nyassi – N/A
Thrown on late with the game already gone.
Miguel Montano – N/A
Made his MLS debut but all he added was a shove on a defender.
Los Angeles Galaxy
Donovan Ricketts – 6
Had nothing of note to do. But that'll be just how the Jamaican shot-stopper likes it.
Bryan Jordan – 6
Tenacity incarnate.
Omar Gonzalez – 8
Does all the gritty work on the defensive end. Any runner or potential problem, he chases down. His game has matured since his rookie year, and his awareness is impressive. This kid has a huge upside.
Gregg Berhalter – 7
Gets the credit for organizing an impenetrable backline. The Galaxy defense caught Seattle offside eight times in the first half alone, much of that thanks to the experience of Berhalter.
Todd Dunivant – 7
Quietly effective and organized, Dunivant tends to represent the understated Galaxy defense. In this game he took time off from his marking duties to head home a diving effort that put the game firmly out of Seattle's reach.
Chris Klein – 6
Good energy down the flank.
Jovan Kirovski – 7
His goal was a bit fortuitous, but you've got to shoot to score. The rest of the match, Kirovski helped plug the midfield, forming a screen Ljungberg couldn't penetrate.
Chris Birchall – 7
Plugged the midfield exceptionally well.
Michael Stephens – 6
Kept things tight and simple. A composed performance for a rookie.
Landon Donovan – 9
What are you going to do? Even when it looks like he's having a quiet game, Donovan will beat you with his incisive runs and precise free kicks. Easily the man of the match with three assists and a goal.
Edson Buddle – 7
Perhaps Seattle was too worried about the white hot form of Buddle for its own good. Buddle didn't add to his nine goals this year, but he didn't have to. His assist on the fourth goal was his only telling contribution.
Substitutes
Clint Mathis – N/A
Returned to the site of his 2009 MLS Cup win and got a solid run-out as a substitute.
Tristan Bowen – N/A
Picked up an early yellow but then settled down and gave a decent account of himself.
Alex Cazumba – N/A
Kept the ball well and stretched the Seattle defense.
