LONDON (AP)—John Terry says he hopes to regain the England captaincy after having lost it in February following newspaper allegations about his private life.
Terry had expected to go to this year’s World Cup in South Africa as captain. But England coach Fabio Capello gave the armband to Rio Ferdinand after reports the Chelsea defender had an affair with the former partner of then England teammate Wayne Bridge.
Terry, who has remained silent about the allegations, said in a BBC interview Saturday that it was difficult to take losing the captaincy and he hopes to get it back some time in the future. But he promises Capello he will still give 100 percent to the team.
