Inverness all but secured the Scottish first division title and with it promotion to the SPL as they beat third-placed Dunfermline 2-0 at home to extend their unbeaten run to 19 games.

Jonathan Hayes had the home side's best chance of the opening period but he shot straight at Dunfermline goalkeeper Chris Smith when well placed.

Dunfermline's Chris Higgins could have given his team a half-time advantage but his header from Willie Gibson's freekick went over the bar.

Thistle came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half and took the lead on 55 minutes when Adam Rooney shot into the top corner from the edge of the area for his 25th goal of the season.

Richie Foran made the game safe for the home side seven minutes later gathering Eric Odhiambo's pass before sliding the ball home from 12 yards.
