Nikola Kalinic, Jason Roberts and Gael Givet scored as Blackburn secured a comfortable 3-0 Lancashire derby victory over Bolton at Ewood Park.

Rovers were good value for the victory that keeps their survival bid well on course with a win over manager Sam Allardyce's former club Bolton, who remain firmly entrenched in the relegation mire.

Rovers made a good start and had the ball in the net as early as the third minute when Morten Gamst Pedersen's long throw sailed straight in. But the referee quite rightly ruled that nobody had touched the ball and play resumed with a goalkick.

Johan Elmander also saw a strike chalked off at the other end after Matt Tayor was adjudged to have fouled Michel Salgago in the build-up.

In an open game, Jussi Jaaskelainen then had to be alert when twice scampering from his goal, while Paul Robinson made a good save to deny Taylor as play again switched down the other end.

But Rovers opened the scoring after 41 minutes when El-Hadji Diouf's long ball was knocked into Kalinic's path by Pedersen and the striker's fierce drive beat Jaaskelainen from the edge of the box.

The second period started amidst increasingly heavy snowfall and Rovers were soon on the attack with Jaaskelainen producing a fine save to keep out Junior Hoilett's flying header.

But Bolton were denied again when Lee Chung-Yong's shot on the turn drew a fine diving save from Robinson.

But the match was made safe after 73 minutes when the Trotters made hard work of clearing a corner and a high ball back into the box found lurking Rovers subsititute Roberts, who sidefooted home a volley from eight yards.

And victory was secured six minutes from time when Diouf floated a teasing cross in from the left flank and Givet stole a march on his marker to glance his header in-off the post from six yards.

The win consolidates Blackburn's place in 12th, while Bolton remain 18th and one point from safety.
