The coach expects his captain to make a significant contribution in South Africa.
Portugal national team coach Carlos Queiroz has declared that they expect a lot from captain Cristiano Ronaldo at the forthcoming World Cup finals in South Africa.
Despite his suggestion that a player of Ronaldo's caliber can add a lot to the team's cause, Queiroz also noted that the rest of the squad showed during qualifying that they are more than capable of coping without the Real Madrid star.
"We expect a lot from Cristiano Ronaldo. With what we have done, if we have the contribution and added value of a player recognized and considered one of the best in the world, of course the team will benefit," he is quoted as saying by AS before stating that a team effort can lead his team to glory this summer.
"The other player's gave a positive response [in his absence in qualifying]. Stars win games but it is the collective, the team that wins championships."
Portugal face a difficult task to get to the knockout phase in June, facing Brazil, Ivory Coast and North Korea in what promises to be a testing group.
