Wayne Rooney outshone David Beckham whose reunion with Manchester United ended in a dramatic 3-2 defeat for AC Milan.

Ronaldinho's third-minute opener and a goal five minutes from the end by Clarence Seedorf ensure AC Milan will go to Old Trafford in three weeks time with a chance.

But a lucky Paul Scholes leveller paved the way for Rooney to win the contest with two headed goals in the second half, before Michael Carrick was sent off in stoppage time.
