Marcelo Signs Real Madrid Contract Extension

Real Madrid confirmed today that Brazilian wing-back Marcelo has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club for another five years.
The Blancos confirmed the agreement via a statement on their official website that read, “Real Madrid C.F. and Marcelo Vieira today signed a contract extension that will link the player and club through June 2015.”
The 21-year-old joined the Merengues from Brazilian club Fluminense in 2006 with a huge reputation despite having played only a handful of games for Flu.
He arrived at the club with huge boots to fill, having been brought in as a direct replacement for club legend Roberto Carlos, and made a patchy start to his Real Madrid career.
Being asked to play in a flat back four for the first time, the Brazilian international’s defensive frailties earned him a lot of criticism in the Spanish media during his first season at the club.
However, since the arrival of Manuel Pellegrini, the Brazilian has been pushed a little further forward and is thriving in his advanced role.
