Roma centre-back Philippe Mexes has allayed fears that he is set for a spell on the sidelines after limping off 10 minutes from time during yesterday’s 2-0 win over Udinese in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie.
The 27-year-old picked up a thigh problem and was replaced by Juan, but told LaRoma24.it after the encounter: “I took quite a knock, but I should play in Florence.”
Roma pay visit to Fiorentina in Serie A action on Sunday after setting one foot in the Coppa Italia final last night courtesy of goals from Mirko Vucinic and Mexes.
“I’m happy to have scored a goal,” smiled the former Auxerre man.
“A two-goal advantage is better than 1-0 and now we’ll play them for a place in the final at their home. Still, it’s not over yet. It will be difficult and so will be Sunday’s match against Fiorentina.”
Mexes has been linked with a summer move to Juventus this week, but he looked unfazed.
