Jose Mourinho launches attack on the state of Italian football

Posted Monday, January 25, 2010 by The Independent

Inter ended the game with nine men, with both Wesley Sneijder and Lucio sent off by referee Gianluca Rocchi.

A spiky Mourinho told Sky Italia: "It was a strange game. I have realised that they are not going to allow us to wrap this title up.

"But we were perfect. We would have won this game even with seven men. Maybe with six we would have struggled, but we would have won with seven.

"Everything was done to try and prevent Inter from winning, but my squad is strong and we will win the Scudetto.

"But I will leave it at that. This is your country and your league, I am just a foreigner working here.

"One day I will go and leave this problem with you."

Sunday's 2-0 home defeat against Napoli proved to be the final straw for Serse Cosmi, who resigned from his position as Livorno coach after the game.

The 51-year-old had only been in charge of the club since October when Livorno were rooted to the foot of the Serie A table.

Despite the Napoli loss, the club remain outside the relegation zone, but Cosmi insisted: "I have taken this difficult decision because of the massive conflict in opinion between president (Aldo) Spinelli and me."

Italy international Luca Toni could be sidelined for up to a month after suffering a calf injury during Roma's 2-1 victory against Juventus in Turin.

Toni, who is on loan at Roma from Bayern Munich until the end of the season, limped out of the action after only three minutes.

The 32-year-old will have a scan on the injury but initial estimates suggest he could be out of action for four weeks.

Nicolas Burdisso seems certain to return to Internazionale at the end of this season even though he has impressed during his loan spell at Roma.

The 28-year-old Argentina international has been a regular for Roma this term, featuring in 23 matches and helping the side from the capital put together a ten-match unbeaten run stretching back to October in Serie A.

However, the central defender's agent, Fernando Hidalgo, told FcInterNews.it: "Burdisso is having a great season at Roma and is proving all his worth.

"Nico has one year left on his contract with the Nerazzurri which runs out in June 2011. He will return to Milan on June 30 after the end of his loan deal.

"Should there be any developments which exclusively regard the club, we will be notified and weigh things up."
