Rio ready to return for United against Hull

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Rio Ferdinand will return for Manchester United tomorrow after a three-month enforced lay-off with a back problem.

Ferdinand, who has not played since United's 2-0 defeat at Liverpool on October 25, will make his long-awaited comeback in the Premier League encounter with Hull at Old Trafford.

United boss Fergie confirmed MirrorFootball's Tuesday exclusive that Rio would return against Hull.

"Rio will play tomorrow, which is great news," said Fergie. "He's been training very well these past few weeks and this is the time to bring him back.

"We've gone through the whole programme with him in terms of training and endurance work, and he's done very well so we're happy for him to return.

"It's a big boost to have Rio back. It's been the weakest part of our game this season, the fact we've lost so many of our back-four to injury.

"We've lost Rio, Nemaja Vidic and Edwin van der Sar for long periods, while Wes Brown, Jonny Evans and Gary Neville have all been injured at various times.

"Vidic is still a couple of weeks away, but Dimitar Berbatov is back, after recovering from the dead leg he suffered against Burnley last weekend.

"But we're getting close to getting our squad back, which is good news. We're the only game on in the Premier League tomorrow, so it's a big chance for us."
