Milan 4-0 Siena: Ronaldinho Back To World Class Best To Crush Siena With Stunning Hat-trick

The Rossoneri cut the lead at the top of Serie A to six points.

Milan continued their fine recent form with a 4-0 win over ten-man Siena at San Siro in Serie A, thanks to a Ronaldinho hat-trick and Marco Borriello.

The Rossoneri had a few injury problems coming into the game as Alexandre Pato, Massimo Oddo, Gianluca Zambrotta, Oguchi Onyewu, Clarence Seedorf, Dominic Adiyiah were sidelined and Massimo Ambrosini suspended. Matthieu Flamini entered the fray.

Siena returned to the Stadio Meazza following last week's heart-breaking defeat to to Inter but were weakened by bans to Reginaldo and Sanchez Cribari, and the African Cup of Nations participation of Abdelkader Ghezzal. Massimo Maccarone again led the offence.

There was a minute silence before kick off for the victims of the Haiti Earthquake.

There was a lowkey opening to the game, but this all changed in the ninth minute after a catastophic mistake by Brandao let Marco Borriello through on goal. The former Genoa man was upended as he rounded Gianluca Curci, and the referee pointed to the spot while red carding the goalkeeper as last man. Ronaldinho stepped up and sent substitute shot-stopper Gianluca Pegolo the wrong way.

Milan looked for a second and Borriello headed over from an Ignazio Abate cross, while Pegolo almost lost the ball to Ronaldinho inside his area.

Despite being a man down, Siena should have equalised on 26 minutes as Maccarone was guilty of a shocking miss. After bundling his way through on goal he somehow skied over when it seemed impossible to miss.

A minute later Siena paid the full price for this error as Milan doubled their lead with a wonder goal from Borriello. A 30 yard chipped pass from Pirlo was hooked into the top corner first time from an acute angle in a move that brought back memories of Marco Van Basten's strike for Holland against the USSR in Euro 1988.

It could have been three soon after, but Abate scuffed wide after a surging run forward.

Milan made one change at half time as Marek Jankulovski replaced Flamini. Straight after the interval Ronaldinho bamboozled Claudio Terzi with some mesmeric dummies before dinking the ball over Pegolo and the bar.

Borriello fired straight at the goalkeeper from an intelligent Ronaldinho pass before Alessandro Nesta was substituted for Giuseppe Favalli due to injury. Milan fans will be waiting nervously ahead of the derby with Inter.

Former Barcelona star Ronaldinho was rolling back the years, and the Brazilian went on another solo but was denied by a brilliant fingertip save around the post by Pegolo.

Ronaldinho finally got the second goal he deserved on 72 minutes as he rose unmarked from a corner to head home.

The 29-year-old almost completed his hat-trick soon after a fantastic dribble that culminated in a chipped shot just wide.

Milan goalkeeper Nelson Dida had been a spectator all game, but he saved superbly from Siena substitute Emanuele Calaio with 12 minutes to go. Maccarone went down in the penalty area and was booked for simulation.

If Ronaldinho's display hadn't been incredible enough, he put the cherry on the top with a minute to go with a wonder goal. Ronnie unleashed a stunning strike from 30 yards way out on the left into the far top corner.

Milan close the gap at the top of the table to six points with a game in hand ahead of next week's title decider against Inter.
