South Africa World Cup (11 June - 11 July)
Forget the Olympics and certainly dismiss the Super Bowl. This is the Greatest Show on Earth.
The World Cup in South Africa is set to consume the sporting year. It's already filling the back pages and as the opening ceremony comes around expect in-depth analysis on the England hotel, what hairstyle David Beckham will be sporting and minute-by-minute updates from Manchester United matches concerning Wayne Rooney's fitness.
England qualified in style and go in as one of the tournament favourites. That's nothing new - but the national team have consistently failed to live up to their billing. Hopes are high that under the guidance of Fabio Capello that could change and England might finally end the years of hurt.
England kick off their campaign against the United States - but aside from watching the Three Lions there promises to be a feast of entertainment. Group G which contains Brazil, Ivory Coast and Portugal could be a good place to find it. Otherwise take a look at what Diego Maradona gets up to in charge of Argentina, the reaction Thierry 'handball' Henry receives, or just cast your eye to the stands where the wild South African supporters are set give the tournament a real party atmosphere. Can't wait.
