LISBON, Portugal (AP)—Javier Saviola scored as Benfica beat Porto 1-0 in the Portuguese “classico” on Sunday, taking the Lisbon team to a share of the lead in the league standings.
The Argentine striker dribbled past defender Bruno Alves to score in the 23rd minute. The win gives Benfica 33 points, the same as Braga and four more than traditional rival Porto, which is third.
Also Sunday, Leiria beat Belenenses 1-0, Setubal beat Maritimo 3-2 and Nacional beat Academica 4-3.
On Saturday, Sporting continued its climb up the league table by beating Naval 1-0 and Guimaraes beat Rio Ave 1-0.
After a poor start to the season, Sporting is now fifth in the standings on 21 points, although it is still 12 behind leader Braga, which beat Pacos Ferreira 1-0 on Friday.
