McClaren wary of Steaua backlash

FC Twente boss Steve McClaren has warned his side to be wary of a wounded Steaua Bucharest side when they host the Romanians in the Europa League.
Steaua were held to a surprise goalless draw by Moldovan champions FC Sheriff Tiraspol in their opening match in Group H a fortnight ago - a result which cost coach Cristiano Bergodi his job.
By contrast Twente registered an impressive 2-1 win away to Fenerbache when striker Blaise Nkufo struck twice late in the game.
It marked the most impressive display of a flying start to the season for McClaren's side as they have gone unbeaten in all comparison so far.
Twente sit second in the Eredivisie table on goal difference behind PSV Eindhoven, and while McClaren admitted he was content with his side's form the former England boss said he would not underestimate Steaua.
"Our victory over Fenerbahce not only impressed in Holland but also in England. I received many comments from back home about how impressive the win was," McClaren said in a press conference today.
"The three points that we claimed has people saying that we are already in a good position, which is good.
"After the draw was made everyone regarded Fenerbahce and Steaua as the favourite to progress, so it says something about our win.
"But we play Steaua on Thursday and they are a different opponent. They have a great history in Europe and they have good technical players.
"At the moment they are a team under construction with a number of young players and a couple of older players.
"Their defence is strong and we will have to be watchful because they are a dangerous team."
New Steaua boss Mihai Stoichita will lead his team in Europe for the first time and has overseen an unbeaten run of three games to inspire some confidence.
The Romanians have not conceded a goal in that time and after recording a goalless draw at Brasov on the weekend have moved up to fifth in the Lig table.
