Scott could turn to Lauchlan

Dundee manager Jocky Scott could bring in Jim Lauchlan for the Co-operative Cup third round tie against Aberdeen after he has shaken off a hamstring injury.

The Dark Blues boss saw Tony Bullock dismissed in the weekend's 2-0 defeat against Queen of the South and that is sure to mean a return to the starting line-up of the fit-again Rab Douglas.

However, Craig McKeown is set to miss out again through injury as the Dens Park side attempt to find some kind of form as they continue to struggle in the league.

Boss Scott said: "It's a very difficult one but that's the kind of opposition you want to be playing against. Obviously, we'd rather be going into the game on the back of a win but the players won't need any incentive for this one."

Aberdeen will be without Sone Aluko.

Winger Aluko yesterday flew out to join his Nigeria team-mates for the Under-20 World Cup in Egypt after being given permission by the Dons and could be missing for up to three weeks.

Defender Zander Diamond is still missing with a foot injury which will see him visit a specialist in Glasgow on Tuesday.

Aberdeen boss Mark McGhee dismissed Dundee's claims to be a Clydesdale Bank Premier League club in all but name ahead the tie.

Bankrolled by multi-millionaire businessman Calum Melville, the Dees have defied the credit crunch by spending big in a bid to land the Irn-Bru First Division title.

But they have made an indifferent start to the season, winning just two of their six league games and McGhee believes Jocky Scott's side have a long way to go before they can be considered on a par with his side.

"I think that they have the ability to make it to the SPL but they still would have to improve their squad," McGhee said.

"Although they've invested in the summer, they haven't caught us yet in that sense.

"On the night, of course, there are all sorts of factors that can balance the tie; we'll be wary about that.

"But, I think they've still got work to do before we should consider them to be on equal terms with us."
