Four back for Wolves

Posted Sunday, September 20, 2009 by PA

Wolves are set to be boosted by the return of winger Michael Kightly, striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, right-back Kevin Foley and central defender Jody Craddock for the clash against Fulham at Molineux.

England under-21 international Kightly has been sidelined since March by hip and foot problems but he made a successful reserve team comeback in midweek and is in contention.

Ebanks-Blake (hamstring) and Foley (knee) were both crocked in the opening game of the season against West Ham and Craddock (hamstring) was injured in training during the recent international break.

Ecuador international midfielder Segundo Castillo, who is on loan from Red Star Belgrade, is pushing to make his debut.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy could also hand a first start to striker Stefan Maierhofer after the Austrian international scored on his debut as a substitute at Blackburn last weekend following his #1.8million move from Rapid Vienna.

McCarthy wants to see a backlash from his players after last weekend's 3-1 defeat at Blackburn.

He said: "It was a poor performance at Blackburn. We played well for the first 18 minutes until they scored and we played badly after that.

"The goal had a positive effect on them and a negative effect on us. Likewise in the second half and it was our poorest performance of the season so far.

"We need to win a game and I would be saying the same thing if it was home or away. We need to start picking up points again.

"We have been on a bit of a crest of a wave after winning promotion last season and maybe last Saturday was a bit of a reality check.

"That is what the game is all about. We are playing against Blackburn who really for 18 minutes were no better or worse than us and they weren't having the best of times before we played against them.

"Then we make a mistake and we were well beaten by them. It just highlights what the league is about.

"You can't make the mistakes that we made and expect to win games.

"All three goals were mistakes. We had a couple of good chances ourselves and it would have been interesting to see what would have happened had we taken them."

Clint Dempsey, Danny Murphy, Damien Duff and Mark Schwarzer should all return for Fulham after missing the 1-1 Europa League draw with CSKA Sofia with minor injuries.

Strikers Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora are also back after being rested, but Paul Konchesky is a doubt because of a knee problem.
