Dzeko pens new Wolves deal

Edin Dzeko has ended speculation over his future by signing a contract extension with reigning Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg.

The highly-rated Bosnian striker, named Germany's player of the year after hitting 36 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions last season, is now under contract until June 30 2013.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of intense transfer scrutiny this summer, with AC Milan reportedly having a big-money approach knocked back by the German club.

Saturday's announcement should be enough to ward off a renewed bid, and will come as a boost to new Wolves coach Armin Veh, who is under pressure to live up to the achievements of his predecessor Felix Magath, who led the club to a first ever league title last season before stepping down.

"The early contract extension with Edin Dzeko is a further positive signal for the future. Edin is a very important element of our team," said Veh, who is preparing the club for their maiden Champions League campaign.

Dzeko added: "I'm delighted that we have been able to agree terms before the start of the Bundesliga season. Now I can concentrate fully on VfL Wolfsburg.

"I'm looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League. We have big plans with VfL."
