Per Nilsson has been named as Hoffenheim's new captain after they sold former incumbent Selim Teber to Eintracht Frankfurt recently.
The Swedish defender earned the majority vote from his team-mates to wear the armband in Hoffenheim's second season in the Bundesliga, according to the club's website.
The 26-year-old was vice-captain last season and has now been voted to the head of the players' advisory panel, which also includes former Germany international goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand, Sejad Salihovic, new signing Josip Simunic and Marvin Compper.
He will lead Hoffenheim out for the first time on Sunday when they face Oberneuland in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
A week later, Hoffenheim begin their Bundesliga campaign with a home game against record German champions Bayern Munich.
